What a killer gig that was! Appetite had just been out and the buzz on the band was enormous in England. I made the trip to London to catch them live. London was a Rock city back then, tons of clubs, bars & bands, nothing compared to what it's become today. The Quireboys and Faster Pussycat opened the show, and you can judge by yourself how great the rest of the night was with GNR's performance. I went backstage before the show to meet the guys for a half hour. Walked by Axl in the stairway of the Odeon as he was leaving. I had talked to him 4 months before when they played the Marquee and he was believe it or not totally charming & cool, but I didn't meet him that day. The rest of the guys were relaxing & drinking in the dressing room, Izzy keeping to himself, Duff & Slash were far too stoned to talk to me in any serious manner and kept giggling the whole time. Strangely enough Steven Adler seemed to be the only one clean that night! A few months later they were #1 in the US.
