Setlist notes
First Guns N' Roses show in the Middle East since 1993. Before the concert there were traffic jams to the stadium and there was much press during the gig. Most people were their for the first time and "watching with their mouths open". Axl was in a great mood and mentioned he thought the venue was great.

My review on Guns N' Roses concert

December, 16th 2010
I had to walk 3 KMs from the huge parking lot to the concert's venue that night. My heart was pumping @ 100 I assume during my quick walk while singing the songs I wanted to hear that night.
The security was very tight and it took them no time to find my hidden camera (professional cameras were not allowed). I passed through the 1st guy, the 2nd guy who scanned my ticket and the nice fat lady who kept touching my body for a good 15 second before I found my self at the venue. It was a huge open space with snack and drinks outlets (alcohol was allowed) but to my surprise there were no Gun N' Roses merchandise whatsoever!!! just a lame-ass generic "Rock Star" t-shirts that were made in freaking China (Grrrrrrr).
I bought my drinks then walked fast to the front area to secure a good spot before the gig starts (golden circle tickets were sold out so I had to make the best out of the General Admission area). The crowd started building up pretty fast and before I know it the stage lit up and Juliana Down came out to perform (a local band from the UAE and they're not bad at all).
When they ended their number, we waited for about 80 minutes (by then I realized that I needed to go to the toilet, but I had let go of the idea so I don't lose my good spot at the front) and just before you knew it while the crowed roared Guns N' Roses, the bad boys took the stage by storm to the beats of their masterpiece "Chinese Democracy".
At that point I remembered Axl's weak performance at MTV's VMA and how his voice was all shattered and bumpy; but as he kept going with Chinese Democracy he surprised me with his excellent voice and its high pitch. Voice wise Axl was as good as the guy who rocked the globe in the 80s and 90s.
After Chinese Democracy, the crowed went crazy and GnR didn't let them down as Axl screamed "You know where the f***k you are?" and I knew it was time for "Welcome To The Jungle" and my oh my! it was a trip back to the 80s baby. With the serpentine dance, the run, the screams and the top-notch performance. It was the time when I realized how good the new lineup was! they all worked together as a unit and you could feel the harmony between all of them.
As always, Axl gave the guys a chance to meet the fans (performance wise). DJ Ashba took his guitar and played a piece that made me forget that someone called Slash ever existed (and I mean it). It was melodic, soft at the beginning and kept going up till it become a bohemian musical dream. It was "The Ballad of Death".
Axl then gave a chance to the new album before performing Pink Floyd's jewel "The Wall". After that it was time for Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal to fly solo with the fans. His piece was the theme from "Pink Panther" at its beginning before transforming it into a hard-rock gem.
It was then time for some classical icons. "Knocking on Heaven's Door", "It's So Easy", "Mr. Brownstone" and the list goes on. At that point I lost my voice and I started to sound like some old guy with throat cancer. Then it was time to re-introduce the one and only Dizzy "ehhm" Reed (as Axl called him), the piano and keyboard master who remained with Axl throughout the stormy breakup of the original lineup. He looked mature and classy with his suit and gave an amzing piano performance.
By then Richard Fortus came out of the dark with a classic Spanish guitar playing the riffs of "Patience". The crowed went crazy for this particular song and Axl made one hell of a job singing it along with the audience. He then said thank you and the stage went dark and some people thought the show was over (if you're a true Gunner, you'd know that Axl does this every time), but I stood still thinking about the toilet (at that point I was about to explode) and the guys came back to perform "Don't Cry" which hit a very romantic spot at all Gunners that night.
"Sweet Child O'mine" kicked some serious musical ass. The guys did a wonderful job performing it and the crowed went crazy with every single word.
Again Axl went back to the new album with "Madagascar". the visuals at the background were so brilliant and related to the lyrics (Martin L. King, Africa's hunger, 3rd world countries flags, etc..)
It was then time for yet another masterpiece "November Rain". Ladies in their 40s were crying!!!! Axl started it with an intro on the piano and you could tell that he's become quite the expert now. Needless to mention the legendary solo that rocked the place to its basis.
When I heard the intro of "Paradise City" I had mixed feelings. This song in particular reminds me of my beautiful town Kelibia but I also know that Guns N' Roses always close their concerts with it. It was just an amazing performance as usual and although the song was full of high notes but Axl managed to hit them all with a crystal voice. The end of the song is the usual crazy-ass part of the song with roaring electrical guitars and a drum-set chaos that all Gunners love and wait for,suddenly we heard a big bang and red small papers came out of their cannons and hit us all like a red snow storm. It was the best closure to an extraordinary night.
Axl then screamed "good f***ing night ABU DHABI" and the crowed cheered with pure happiness and satisfaction.
On the next day I got to meet with Richard Fortus, Bumblefoot and Frank Ferrer at Shangrila Hotel. They were so nice and down to earth. When I thanked Bumblefoot for last night's performance I asked him "Where's Axl", he winked at me and answered "Who the hell knows??!" then I told him "please keep the band alive", to which he answered "you can count on me".
Voila, this is it. An amazing journey to that beautiful Rock Era where true musical gods roamed the planet once. I'm pretty sure that the new lineup will secure the band's future and that they'll succeed to deliver the best music with Axl, the man who kept Guns n' Roses alive.
